[break] [break] Even while predisposed to take things a little too seriously, Clockwork can't help but feel a bit skeptical about the offer— but it's a hefty payout of platinum, enough to buy himself the remaining few materials he'd needed to fix up his shirt. That's a priority, he thinks to himself, glancing down at the popped button on his collar with a shuddering motion. At this point, he's on the cusp of a fashion nightmare. It's embarrassing enough to be out in public while he's looking like this; leaving Ludwig with tattered clothing, though? Absolutely not.
[break] [break] Besides, Automatons— while clunky in nature— are built to withstand a couple drinks. It's not necessarily the most becoming option to make some money, but he's wholly confident in his ability to drink some stranger out of his wallet. It doesn't look like he's the only person here, but the other adventurers— including one that he, unfortunately, feels as though he recognizes— don't particularly look as if they're made from the same material.
[break] [break] "...I'll do it," he murmurs, raising his hand amongst the crowd as he meets the challenger's gaze, standing on his tip-toes in the crowd in an attempt to make himself known to the NPC. "—Last man standing, is it not? If anyone else is stepping up to the plate, make it known."
[break] [break] "...I'm not paying for antidote if anyone ends up hurling, though. Just don't get it on my clothes."

In the few short months M1SSILE's been in Empyrea, he's graduated from social drinker to full-time alcoholic. More recently, he's spent so much time in taverns that he holds gold level membership discounts with several franchises.[break][break]
With a pint of beer in hand, he makes his way to the forming crowd. Already halfway through his own drink, he only intended on observing the competition. Afterall, he'd be at an disadvantage. Even as a fellow player volunteers—a blond hair, blue-eyed, fragile looking thing—and a small part of him wanted to swoop in for the easy win, he maintains his resolve.[break][break]
But then the NPC looks over in his general direction, repeating the prize offerring, and that is all it takes for M1SSILE's resolve to melt away. He squeezes through the crowd of bystanders and pushes them out of his way as gently as he can (read: not gently at all).[break][break]
"Count me in too," he declares, taking one of the empty seats. He places his three-quarters empty glass on the tabletop.[break][break]
"Me hurling? Never," M1SSILE laughs, confident in his own ability to hold liquor, "I won't be responsible if you die of alcohol poisoning though." Despite the shorty's confidence, a twenty or so centimetre height gap is nothing to scoff at. And as a conoisseur of Empyrea's beer, he has a pretty good handle on both the alcohol content of virtual beer, and how it affects his avatar.[break][break]
Alcohol in ARK had always been an interesting thing to Rhapsody. If the game was an escape from her life, then alcohol was escape from the game itself; even while wasting away in the game, it was a nice thing to have a few drinks, pleasantly muddling her brain and clouding her thoughts. She wasn’t much for taverns, but if she was in the mood for drinks, it was a bit easier to go than to buy them off of shops. [break][break] She’d already downed multiple mugs of whatever the barkeep had offered her – she hadn’t cared nearly enough to decipher what – when she noticed the strange NPC in the center of the tavern, offering a prize to whoever could withstand the most of his “special brew”. What few inhibitions she might have had were muted by the humming in her brain, and she shrugged and took one of the open seats at the table. [break][break] She paid no real mind to whatever the NPC said after that, nor to any of the other players who were seated beside her. In truth, she didn’t care in the slightest about winning, nor about the platinum reward that came with it. If this hooded man was offering something up for a contest, she reasoned, it was probably the good stuff, and this was just an easy avenue to it. [break][break] Her sister had always told her not to talk to strangers in the megacomplexes, though, back in her childhood. If she was sober, the thought might have pushed her away, but in her current state, it only made her shoot the NPC a look, tapping impatiently at the wood of the empty table spot in front of her. If she was still coherent enough to remember something like that, she needed more drinks.

Halcyøn wakes slowly from his stupor as if the last three hours hadn't existed, having disintegrated along with the imponderable reason as to why he was in Ludwig of all locations in the first place. He vaguely recalls chasing her shadow, coming close, only to have her silhouette slip through his fingers. He wonders if that is why he chose to drown his sorrows in virtual drink. [break][break] It's not like him, clearly, as he suddenly focuses on the unpleasantly tangy aftertaste of cheap moonshine on the back of his tongue. Usually, he's able to rouse himself to full awareness in a matter of seconds, but today is different. His thoughts are slow and syrupy, weighted against the remnant figments of her elusive figure in his imagination. He isn't sure he's actually awake at all when he peels his cheek off the countertop and winces from a dull ache in his skull. [break][break] There's a stir of sudden movement in the tavern, even amidst the din. He can make out the loud drawl of an unfamiliar voice— a stranger, challenging players to a drinking contest. [break][break] No doubt, he thinks to himself, this is one of those 'quest' things that people were meant to be taking in this game. Halcyøn is unsurprised when three people rise to the challenge. For his part, he thinks it may be about time to make himself scarce. [break][break] He blinks several times in an attempt to pull the room into focus. Its patrons are an amalgamation of unrecognisable amorphous shapes and smears of color, like an oil painting made worse through the lens of inebriation. He pushes past them, at first slipping by easily with his wiry frame and short stature. [break][break] It's when the exit is in sight and he places a hand on someone's shoulder to push past their table that he realises he made a mistake. The telltale quest menu blinks to life, and he's pulled into the last remaining stool by the very NPC he was attempting to avoid. [break][break] "Oh, I don't— that wasn't meant to be—" He swallows nervously, unable to recognise anyone at the table, "I think I've had enough. Drinks, I mean. And the hallucinations that come with. And without it. For a lifetime."
