ored, bored, bored! Star was bored out of her mind. She had come all this way to the filthy streets of Ludwig in search of fun chaos. Instead, she had just found a bunch of rats running around in the muck. There was a lousy thief, cocky scammer or thirsty ERP simp lurking behind every corner. Stealing their stuff had lost its novelty three muggings ago.
Speaking of which...
Dressed in glitz and glamor, the crimson-haired magical girl stood out against the backdrop of grimy brickwork. In the shadows, three silhouettes stirred and snuck after her. She pretended not to see them, while turning to an alley she knew to be a dead end. To no one’s surprise, the overgrown rats followed.
Trapped in the shadows of towering warehouses, the trickster twirled around to face her company. A lean man in a ratty trench coat was flanked by two burly goons dressed in rags. Flashing wicked grins, they blocked the exit.
The leader of the group stepped closer and mockingly doffed his cap. “Evenin’ sweetheart. You look lost. But no worries, me and the boys can show you the way out just for the low, low price of all your plat.” His goons chuckled, like it was the best joke they had heard in ages.
While the menacing muggers advanced, the bored performer made a small show of rolling her eyes. “Uggghhh... You losers don’t even look fun enough to kill...” She groaned. Like, what even were they? Level three, four at best? She could run circles around them!
Then... Star got an idea. An awful idea. She got a wonderful, awful idea. For a brief moment, the innocent mask slipped. Her gaze narrowed into a devious squint and her lips twisted into a devilish crescent grin. Where most smiles showed cheer, this was all teeth.
Suddenly, the trickster threw herself against nearby trash cans. Their loud clatter rang like a broken church bell, alarming everyone within earshot. Her ominous smile vanished beneath a mask of teary-eyed terror. “W-who are you?! W-what are you doing?!” Likewise, her voice took on a panicked waver of a fair maiden.
The actress flopped onto a dirty puddle on the ground. “N-no! Stay back, you awful brutes!” She yanked one of her twin tails open and scraped her elbow bloody against the rough brick wall. Little by little, the look came together. A splatter of mud here, some tantalizingly torn clothing there... Perfect~! “Is my satchel not enough?! Y-you’re trying to defile me too?!” After all, what was a performer without a costume and make-up?
Meanwhile, the would-be muggers were stunned by the sudden shift in tone. They exchanged puzzled looks. One lackey shrugged, the other shook his head. The boss tried to correct this obvious misunderstanding. “Uhhh, nobody said anything about...” Buuut he was cut short by the loudest shriek yet.
“Somebody! Anybody! HEEEEELP~!”
As the scream echoed between the grimy alleys, the stage was set. Places, everyone! The show was about to start. The curtain slid open. On one end, they had the wicked villains and on the other the poor damsel in distress... Now, they just needed a hero~!
Ludwig was a disgusting city. If Rhapsody played ARK to escape the horrors of the real world, then Ludwig was those horrors brought back to life, all disgusting pollution and desolate smog, morally bankrupt from its surface to its core.[break][break]
Unfortunately, that also made it the perfect place to pick a fight with some scummy NPC or equally grimy player, and Rhapsody had found herself in such a mood on this day. But nothing had caught her eye; she'd hoped for some game-programmed penniless fool to jump her, or perhaps some kind of random quest, but no luck. She was increasingly bored, increasingly frustrated with every second she spent in this accursed city. It was not a good day.[break][break]
“Somebody! Anybody! HEEEEELP~!”[break][break]
Ah, finally. The scream came from an adjacent alley, almost deafening in its closeness, and Rhapsody smiled lightly to herself. Maybe it was truly someone in need of help, or maybe it was a trap. Either way, she'd found her mark.[break][break]
She turned the corner and came upon the backs of a few players who seemed to have fashioned themselves into a pack of lowly muggers, circled around some frilly-looking girl who was laid down in a small ditch, bruised and dripping wet. The muggers seemed to have the upper hand, but they... weren't moving? Strange.[break][break]
Oh well, Rhapsody shrugged. It was pointless to fret over the details. She'd found her fight, even if it meant that she'd likely have to deal with this girl's "you saved me!" antics after she pacified these grimy players.[break][break]
"Excuse me,", she said, laying a hand on the shoulder of the one lackey closest to her, and smiling sweetly at him as he turned around. "This doesn't seem like a very fair fight."[break][break]
Without another word, without even sparing a look at the girl she was supposedly saving, she wound up and slammed her fist into the man's jaw. The crack of bone, she thought, was always, always so satisfying.

s if listening to the shrieking wasn’t enough, someone else stumbled upon the scene. The leader of the group groaned upon hearing the voice. All these hero types... Whining about fair and unfair... Ruining perfectly good muggings. They were the problem with the pvp in this game!
Deciding to stop being so polite, the weasely man turned around to give the stranger a piece of his mind. “How about you run along before you get-!” His tirade was interrupted, when he saw his bigger buddy get knocked on his ass. “...Hurt.” His pointing finger drooped. Quietly he hoped the loud crack came from the fist and not the mouth... But at the same time, he was pretty sure jaw bones didn’t usually have dents.
Star, meanwhile, clamped her hands over her mouth. For the onlookers, it might have seemed like a horrified gasp. In reality, though, she was desperately trying to stop herself from bursting into laughter. A cheeky snort slipped past her fingers. Got to... keep it in...!
With just one punch, the fake damsel’s boredom was decimated. She had found her favorite kind of sucker hero, the kind who immediately sprung to action. Oh, they were the most fun~
After suppressing most of the giggles, the trickster decided to pour some more fuel onto the flames. She reached a trembling hand towards her savior. “Oh, thank goodness you’re here! They tried to v-violate me!” Flopping weakly, she covered her chest. “P-please, save me!” She was very proud of her pitifully meek act. It wasn’t easy when laughter constantly tugged at her lips.
While the remaining burly tank tried to keep the lean dps safe from aggro, said dps pulled out a club... Only to try defending himself with words. “Wha-? Now hold on! That’s not-! No, we... We just wanted her plat!” He insisted. Pointing an accusing finger at the wounded girl, he spouted strange claims with a completely straight face. “She did all this to herself! Swear on my mum’s grave!” If only he had stopped to listen to himself for a moment, he might have realized how weird that sounded.
Buuut, to be fair, it’s tough to think when you're PANICKING.
